Auto-post to X and LinkedIn with AI
Write the idea once, let AI shape a version for each network, and let a scheduler publish both at the time you pick. In Hookpost by Hookstep you select your X and LinkedIn channels on one post, edit or AI-draft each network's version (X allows 280 characters, or 4,000 on a Premium account; LinkedIn allows 3,000), and Hookpost publishes them on schedule; an AI agent such as Claude can do the drafting and scheduling for you over MCP. It posts to personal LinkedIn profiles, not Company Pages, and starts at Standard ($19 a month, ₹599 in India).

In the Hookpost editor, in four steps
- Connect X and LinkedIn. In Hookpost, click Add Channel and approve Hookpost on X, then on LinkedIn with your personal profile.
- Write once, for both channels. Create a post and select both channels. Write the core idea in the shared editor, or ask the AI assistant to draft it.
- Shape a version per network. Open one channel and choose Edit content to change only that network’s copy: a tight hook under 280 characters for X, more context for LinkedIn. Hookpost checks each version against its network’s limit before it is queued.
- Pick a time and schedule. Set the date and time and add it to the calendar. Hookpost publishes each version at that time, and a failed post turns red in the calendar with the network’s error.
Three ways to let AI do the writing
| Route | Who writes the copy | Set up | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hookpost editor with the AI assistant | You, with AI drafts (500 AI text generations a month on Standard, 1,000 on Pro) | None beyond connecting X and LinkedIn | A few posts a week you want to read before they go out |
| An AI agent over MCP (Claude, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI) | The agent, from your notes, docs or repo | Add the MCP server URL and your API key to the agent | Turning a changelog, blog post or notes file into a week of drafts |
| Your own script (CLI or REST API) | Whatever model or template your script uses | npm install -g hookpost, or call the API with your key | Posts generated by a pipeline, n8n or CI |
For the agent route, add Hookpost's MCP server to your client (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex CLI, Gemini CLI) and give it a job like this:
prompt
List my Hookpost channels. Read blog/2026-10-launch.md and write: - an X thread of 4 posts, each under 280 characters - one LinkedIn post under 1,300 characters with a question at the end Save both as drafts for Tuesday 09:30 IST on my X and LinkedIn channels.
For the script route, see the Hookpost CLI and the scheduling API.
One idea, written for each network
The limits Hookpost checks before a post is queued, and the networks people ask about next:
| Network | Text limit in Hookpost | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| X | 280 characters (4,000 on a Premium account) | Threads publish as a reply chain. A link counts as 23 characters. |
| 3,000 characters | Personal profiles only. Carousels need 2+ images and no video. | |
| Threads | 500 characters | Text, image or video. |
| Bluesky | 300 characters | Connects with an App Password. Up to 4 images or one video. |
| Mastodon | Not supported | Hookpost does not connect Mastodon. |
Every network's limits in one table: post to multiple social media at once. Count before you paste: character counter.
Questions
- How do I auto-post to X and LinkedIn with AI?
- Use a scheduler that lets AI draft a version for each network and publishes both at a set time. In Hookpost by Hookstep you can draft with the built-in AI assistant, or let an AI agent such as Claude or Cursor write and schedule the posts through Hookpost's MCP server. Either way you can read every post before it goes out.
- Does the same text go to X and LinkedIn?
- Only if you want it to. One post can carry a shared version and a customised version per channel. Choosing Back to global discards the customised copy, so make network edits last.
- Can I post to a LinkedIn Company Page?
- No. Hookpost posts to personal LinkedIn profiles only; LinkedIn Company Pages are not supported.
- Can it schedule X threads?
- Yes. Add posts below the first one and Hookpost publishes them as a reply chain on X; the same thread can go to Bluesky too. The free thread splitter cuts long text into posts that fit.
- Does Hookpost pick the best time to post?
- No. There is no “best time to post” feature: you choose the time, or the hookpost CLI takes the next free slot in your posting schedule when you leave out --at.
- Is there an approval step before AI posts go out?
- There is no approval workflow. The safeguard is drafts: ask the AI or agent to save drafts, read them in the calendar, then schedule.
- Which plan do I need?
- Standard ($19 a month, ₹599 in India) covers 5 channels, 500 posts and 500 AI text generations a month. The API key, and with it the MCP server, comes with Standard ($19 a month, ₹599 in India: 5 channels, 500 posts a month) and Pro ($29 a month, ₹1,999 in India: 20 channels, 2,000 posts a month, up to 15 team members). Every plan starts with a 3-day trial, and the trial includes the key.
- Can I try it before paying?
- Yes. 3-day trial: in India ₹0 today, then ₹599/month by UPI AutoPay or card; elsewhere $19/month after, by card; cancel at least 24 hours before the first charge.
